It is encouraging to see large companies announcing increasingly ambitious plans to address sustainability SensThys has taken some very specific actions to promote sustainability and links this to improving the economy for their customers.
Shipping is a large part of SensThys' cost structure and the largest part of their carbon footprint. To address this, they have redesigned products and packaging to make shipping more efficient, in addition to localizing their component suppliers around the manufacturing facility in Taiwan. This has dramatically reduced air freight and packaging.
Before this effort, it took 14 boxes and four transport flights to get 10 antennas to an end customer. In addition, 50% of the average shipment was air freight, which is very common in many packaging systems. Now, two air flights are required to get the product to the customer, and only one box is used throughout the process. The packing density is >95%, i.e. the product occupies almost the entire volume of the shipment.
Another effort focused on the widely used VESA bracket. Approximately 2.2 liters of air was shipped with each bracket, and each bracket had to be shipped twice, resulting in shipping costs being the largest cost to the end customer. With locating the supplier and redesigning the bracket, this was reduced to one shipping step, reducing the number of boxes by 50%, and reduced the wasted shipping volume by 75%.
SensThys' reuse of packaging and simplification of its supply chain, combined with its commitment to carbon-neutral shippers are just some of the actions the company has taken to address climate change.
SensThys is committed to developing solutions that better support their customers while dramatically reducing their environmental impact. These examples give a good insight into some of the actions they have already taken.
